지난 시간에는 아사의 이야기를 살펴보았는데요. 오늘은 북쪽 이스라엘 왕의 이야기를 살펴보는 시간이 됐습니다. 북쪽 이스라엘의 첫 번째 왕은 누구였죠? 여로보암이었습니다. 그 여로보암 왕이 첫 번째 단추를 잘 끼웠다고 한다면 나머지 단추들도 잘 끼워질 가능성이 참 많았을 텐데요. 안타깝게도 여로보암 왕, 북쪽 이스라엘의 첫 번째 왕이었던 여로보암 왕이 첫 단추를 잘못 끼웠습니다. 북쪽 이스라엘이 하나님의 뜻을 저버리고 우상 숭배하는 길로 가는 그런 잘못된 모습을 보여주었다고 하는 것이 너무나도 안타까운 일이죠. 이제 그 아들, 여로보암 왕의 아들이 여로보암의 뒤를 이어서 두 번째 왕으로 올라가게 되었는데요. 그 사람의 이름이 무엇입니까? 나답이라고 하는 사람입니다. 이름은 나답인데 답이 없는 사람이에요. 여호와 보시기에 어떻게 행했는가, 악을 행했다고 기록하고 있습니다.
열왕기상 15장 26절 말씀을 보니까 **“그가 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하되 그의 아버지의 길로 행하며 그가 이스라엘에게 범하게 한 그 죄 중에 행한지라”**라고 기록하고 있는 것이죠. 이 나답이라고 하는 사람의 성적표가 어떤 성적표였을까요? 우리나라 역대 대통령들의 성적표들이 지금 많이 나오고 비교되고 있는 상황 가운데 있는데, 어쩌면 어떤 왕은, 어떤 사람은 경제를 일으킨 그런 대통령으로 기억이 될 것이고 어떤 대통령은 무슨 일을 했다고 하는 것으로 기억이 될 것이고… 그런 점에서 아마 이 나답이라고 하는 왕도 몇 가지 장점들을 찾아보려고 한다면 장점들이 없지 않았을 거라고 생각이 듭니다. 사람의 관점으로 보면 좋은 왕이 될 수도 있었을 거라고 생각이 듭니다. 하지만 성경에서는 이 사람의 어떤 점을 주목하고 있는가, 성경에서는 무엇으로 이 나답이라고 하는 왕을 평가하고 있는가? 여호와 보시기에 악을 행했다고 하는 그 관점에서 평가하고 있는 것이죠.
이 사람이 얼마나 주식 시장을 많이 올렸느냐, 얼마나 부동산을 잘 잡았느냐 이런 문제로 이 왕을 평가하는 것이 아니라, 과연 이 사람이 하나님께서 보시기에 선을 행했는가 악을 행했는가라고 하는 것, 그것으로 이 왕의 모습을 판단하고 있다고 하는 것을 오늘 우리가 볼 수가 있겠습니다. 그래서 오늘 우리들도 기억해야 될 것이 있다고 한다면 우리에게 정말 중요한 것이 무엇인가? 정말 중요한 것은 사람들의 평가가 아니라 하나님의 평가가 가장 중요하다고 하는 사실을 기억할 수 있기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 사람들은 무엇을 보고 평가할까요? 그 사람이 이루어낸 결과물들을 보고 평가할 겁니다.
얼마나 많은 것을 이루었느냐, 얼마나 많은 성과를 나타냈는가, 눈에 보이는 것, 측정할 수 있는 것, 돈으로 명성으로 이 세상의 기준으로 사람들을 평가하게 되겠지만, 그러나 이 세상 사람들이 평가하는 것과는 달리 하나님께서는 이 사람이 과연 하나님 앞에 얼마나 진실하게 서 있는가, 하나님의 말씀에 얼마나 순종하며 살아가는가 이런 것으로 우리를 판단하게 될 텐데, 오늘 우리들의 마음 가운데 이 한 가지 사실을 분명하게 기억하면 좋겠습니다. 우리가 어디서 신앙생활을 해야 되는가? 은밀한 중에 보시는 하나님, 우리의 기도를 은밀한 중에 들으시며 우리의 선함을 은밀함 가운데 보시며 주님께서 보시는 그 관점을 우리가 바라보며 믿음으로 서는 우리 모두가 다 되어야 될 줄로 믿습니다. 신앙생활을 하면서도 우리가 하나님을 섬긴다고 말하면서도 하나님이 우리의 마음 가운데 있는 것이 아니라, 사람들이 나를 어떻게 보느냐에 너무나도 많은 그런 신경을 쓰는 경우가 많이 있습니다.
사람들이 박수를 쳐주는가 안 쳐주는가, 사람들이 내 수고를 인정해 주는가 인정해 주지 않는가, 사람들이 나를 어떻게 보는가… 사람들이 보는 것에 따라서 시험에 들고 그리고 낙망하고 절망하면서 믿음에서 떨어지는 경우가 너무나도 참 많이 있는데요. 사람들이 몰라준다고 할지라도, 사람들이 나를 인정해 주지 않는다고 할지라도 하나님 앞에서 보실 때, 하나님께서 보실 때 선한 사람, 하나님께서 보실 때 착하고 충성된 종이 다 될 수 있기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다. 보통 많은 교회들에서 직분자 선거를 할 때가 있습니다. 그래서 장로로 피택하기도 하고 또한 권사님으로 피택하기도 하고 안수집사님으로 피택하기도 하는데, 그러다 보면 ‘아 저 사람은 될 법도 한데’ 그런데 3분의 2라고 하는 것은 정말 받기가 어려운 표거든요. 3분의 2라고 하는 것은 쉽지 않습니다.
그러다 보니까 할 수 있는 사람들인데도 불구하고 이렇게 당선이 되지 못해서 직분자로 피택되지 않을 때, 놀랍게도 그 가운데 수많은 사람들이 불쾌해하면서 믿음을 잃어버리는 경우가 얼마나 많은지 모릅니다. 그런데 사람들이 인정 안 해줘도 그건 아무 상관이 없어요. 사람들이 나를 인정하지 않고 사람들이 내 이름을 기억하지 못하고 사람들이 내가 누구인지 모른다고 하는 것이 그게 중요한 것이 아니라, 하나님께서 우리를 아시고 인정해 주시는… 정말 우리에게 중요한 것이 무엇입니까? 마지막 날에 주님 앞에 섰을 때 주님으로부터 “내가 너희를 도무지 알지 못하니 불법을 행하는 자들아 다 내게서 떠나가라”고 하는 그런 주님의 음성을 듣는 것이 정말 불쌍한 일인 것이지, 사람들로부터 인정받지 못한다고 하는 것 이것이 중요한 게 아니라고 하는 사실을 기억하면서 우리들의 믿음이 하나님 앞에서 신실하게 서는 우리 모두가 다 될 수 있기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.
오해하지 마십시오. 그러니까 사람들의 말에 귀를 닫아버려도 괜찮다고 말씀드리는 것은 아닙니다. 종종 크리스천들 가운데는 무슨 이야기를 하냐면 제멋대로 내 마음대로 하나님만 보면서 신앙생활 하겠다고 하는 그런 무대포들이 참 가끔씩 나타나게 되는 것이죠. 사람들이 이야기를 합니다. “이렇게 하면 안 되는 것이고요, 이렇게 해야죠.” 많은 권면들을 하는데 그런 권면들을 할 때 마음의 문을 닫아버리고 “나는 사람들 신경 쓰지 않는다. 누가 무슨 이야기를 해도 나는 아무런 상관이 없다. 난 오로지 하나님만 보면서 간다”고 하면서 무대포로 신앙생활을 하는 사람들이 간혹가다가 한 명씩 나와요. 우리 교회에 몇 명 있을까요? 없습니다. 다행히. 그런데 종종 그런 사람들이 있어요. 그 사람이 목사일 수도 있고 장로가 될 수도 있고 권사가 될 수도 있고 집사가 될 수도 있는데 누구든지 그러한 위험 가운데 빠질 수가 있는 것이죠.
그래서 마치 돈키호테처럼 사람들의 말에 전혀 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 그냥 나는 내가 생각할 때 옳은 방향으로 내가 원하는 길로 간다고 하면서 무조건 달려 나가는 게 그게 옳다고 말씀드리는 것이 아닙니다. 사람들을 신경 쓸 게 아니라 하나님을 신경 쓰고 하나님의 관점을 중요하게 여기라고 하는 얘기는 그런 식으로 신앙생활을 해도 괜찮다고 하는 말씀이 결코 아닙니다. 하나님의 뜻은 어떻게 나타나는가? 하나님은 우리들에게 여러 가지 방법으로 하나님의 뜻을 전달해 줍니다.
성경을 통해서 우리가 하나님의 뜻을 깨달을 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서는 성경만이 아니라 이 세상의 모든 것을 사용하셔서 우리들에게 말씀해 주시기를 원하시고 계십니다. 하나님께서 이 세상의 모든 것들을 주관하고 계시기 때문에 하나님의 섭리와 은혜 가운데 이 세상의 모든 일들이 일어나고 있는 것이기 때문에 이 세상에 우연히 일어나는 것이 없고 사실은 그 가운데서도 하나님의 뜻이 숨겨져 있는 것이고 하나님의 그 계획이 숨겨져 있는 것이기 때문에 우리를 향해서 들려주시는 하나님의 음성은 다양한 방법으로 우리들에게 전달되는 경우가 많이 있는 것이죠.
특별히 우리 가족들의 이야기를 통해서 들려줄 때가 있고, 때로는 우리 자녀들의 목소리를 통해서 하나님의 음성이 전달될 때도 있고, 때로는 우리들의 원수의 입을 통해서 하나님의 메시지를 듣게 될 수도 있고, 다양한 방법으로 하나님께서 우리들에게 이야기해 주는 것이 있는데 그럴 때 우리는 어떻게 해야 되는가, 우리 성도들의 기본자세는 겸손해야 될 줄로 믿습니다. 내가 옳다, 나만 옳다, 지금까지 내가 생각하고 있는 것이 그게 정답이라고 생각할 것이 아니라, 내가 혹시라도 잘못 생각한 것은 없을까, 지금까지 해왔던 내 모든 것들이 그것이 나의 아집과 고집 가운데 잘못된 것을 내가 붙들고 있는 것은 아닐까, 지금까지 전통으로 해왔던 것들이 나의 교만이 아닐까, 하나님께서 내게 무엇을 깨닫기를 원하시는가 항상 겸손한 마음으로 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 있는지를 진지하게 분별해 나가야 되는 것이죠. 그래서 우리가 하나님의 뜻을 발견하기 위해서는 항상 겸손해야 되는데요.
하나님의 말씀을 읽으면서도 겸손하지 아니하면 하나님의 뜻을 발견할 수가 없는 겁니다. 그냥 내가 원하는 것, 성경을 읽으면서도 내가 원하는 대로 내 중심적으로 성경을 해석해버리고 잘못된 길로 가면서도 그게 하나님의 뜻이라고 오해하기가 쉬운 것이죠. 그래서 성도의 기본자세는 무엇인가? 항상 겸손하게 하나님의 뜻이 무엇일까? 내가 잘못 생각한 것은 없을까? 내가 교만함 가운데 나의 분노 가운데 나의 그런 속사람의 그런 완악함 때문에 내가 하나님의 말씀을 깨닫지 못하고 잘못된 길로 가고 있는 것은 아닌지 항상 우리 자신을 돌아보며 하나님의 뜻 앞에 우리 자신을 굴복시킬 수 있는 우리 모두가 다 되어야 될 줄로 믿습니다. 우리 옆 사람들과 한번 권면합시다. “겸손합시다.”
안타깝게도 나답이라고 하는 왕은 하나님께서 보시기에 악한 일을 행했습니다. 자기 아버지가 행했던 대로, 아버지를 보고 아버지가 행한 대로 그대로 따라 하다가 망하게 된 것이죠. 우리는 어떻게 이러한 악의 순환에서부터 벗어날 수 있는가? 아버지가 했던 것을 그냥 무조건 답습할 게 아니에요. 하나님께서 정말 원하시는 것일까? 아버지가 행했던 그 일이 하나님께서 정말 기뻐하시는 일일까? 항상 질문을 던지면서 만일 그것이 하나님의 뜻에 맞지 않는다고 한다면 아버지의 길에서 떠나, 아버지의 지배 방식대로 거기에서부터 벗어나 하나님께서 기뻐하시는 일들을 해야 하는 것이죠. 하지만 안타깝게도 나답이라고 하는 왕은 아버지의 길로 갔다가 패망의 길로 가게 되었는데요. 바아사라고 하는 사람에 의해서 이 사람이 죽임을 당하게 되었습니다. 여로보암의 모든 후손들이 다 죽임을 당하게 되었는데 이것이 우연이었는가?
이 나답의 모든 가족들, 여로보암 왕의 모든 가족들이 다 죽임을 당하게 되었는데, 이게 우연이 아니라 사실은 하나님께서 여로보암 왕에게 해주셨던 예언의 말씀 그대로 이루어진 겁니다. 열왕기상 15장 29절 말씀에 보면 **“왕이 될 때에 여로보암의 온 집을 쳐서 생명 있는 자를 한 사람도 남기지 아니하고 다 멸하였는데 여호와께서 그의 종 실로 사람 아히야를 통하여 하신 말씀과 같이 되었다”**고 기록하고 있습니다. 아히야가 누구죠? 아히야는 선지자로서 여로보암 왕에게 나아가서 여로보암 왕을 책망했던 선지자가 아히야 선지자입니다. 아히야 선지자가 여로보암 왕에게 가서 무슨 이야기를 했습니까? 지난 시간에 살펴보았는데, 열왕기상 14장 10절, 11절 말씀에 보면 이렇게 아히야 선지자가 예언했습니다. “그러므로 내가 여로보암의 집에 재앙을 내려 여로보암에게 속한 사내아이는 이스라엘 가운데 매인 자나 놓인 자나 다 끊어버리되 거름더미를 쓸어버림 같이 여로보암의 집을 말갛게 쓸어버릴지라 여로보암에게 속한 자가 성읍에서 죽은즉 개가 먹고 들에서 죽은즉 공중의 새가 먹으리니 이는 여호와께서 말씀하셨음이니라 하셨나니”
여로보암 왕이 우상을 섬기면서 베델에 금송아지를 세워놓고 우상 숭배하며 산당을 지어놓고 악한 일을 할 때 하나님께서 아히야 선지자를 보내셔서 이런 예언을 해주셨어요. 하나님께서 여로보암 가정을 완전히 진멸해 버리실 것이고, 그 진멸해서 여로보암에 속한 자들이 이 성에서 죽으면 개가 먹을 것이고 들에서 죽으면 새들이 먹어버릴 것이고 완전히 여로보암의 집안이 무너질 것이라고 예언을 해주었는데, 그때 여로보암이 어떻게 했어야 됐을까요? 회개해야죠. 회개하면 그 예언의 말씀대로 안 되는 거예요. 하나님께서 그 뜻을 돌이키시는 것이죠.
하나님은 그냥 우매한 그런 재판관이 아니라 우리를 사랑하시는 아버지와 같으신 분이시기 때문에 우리가 만일 회개하고 돌이키면 내리기로 했던 재앙을 돌이키시는 하나님이신데, 안타깝게도 여로보암은 돌이키지 않았고 그의 아들 나답도 똑같이 길을 가다가 결국 똑같은 그런 심판의 메시지대로 이루어졌다고 하는 것이 안타까운 일일 것입니다. 하나님을 배반하고 하나님을 노엽게 하는 것은 누구에게 손해입니까? 하나님에게 굉장히 손해가 되겠습니까? 그렇지 않습니다. 하나님은 그걸로 손해 보시는 게 없어요. 우리가 하나님을 인정하지 않는다고 해서 손해 보거나 만홀히 여김을 받는다거나 하나님께서 어떤 손해를 보는 것이 단 하나도 없는데, 누구만 손해를 봅니까? 우리만 손해를 보는 거예요. 우리만. 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 것은 누구에게 유익입니까? 우리에게 유익이 되는 거예요.
그 유익을 우리가 누려야 될 텐데 안타깝게도 나답은 그의 아버지의 집대로 행하다가 결국 망하게 되었다고 하는 이 역사의 이야기를 보면서, 구약 성경에 기록되어 있는 이 역사의 이야기는 우리들에게 반면교사로, 거울로 주어진 것이기 때문에 이 이야기들을 살펴보는 가운데 오늘도 우리가 하나님의 뜻에서 벗어난 것은 없는지 우리 자신을 살펴보며 믿음의 길을 신실하게 달려 나가는 우리 모두가 다 될 수 있기를 주님의 이름으로 축원합니다.
Breaking the Cycle of Evil: Why God’s Evaluation is the Only One That Matters
Last time, we examined the story of Asa, and today we have come to the time to look at the story of a king of Northern Israel. Who was the first king of Northern Israel? It was Jeroboam. If King Jeroboam had buttoned that first button correctly, there would have been a high probability that the rest of the buttons would have followed suit. Unfortunately, King Jeroboam—the very first king of Northern Israel—buttoned the first button wrong. It is truly a regrettable thing that he showed a wicked side, forsaking God’s will and leading Northern Israel down the path of idolatry. Now, his son, the son of King Jeroboam, succeeded him as the second king. What was his name? It was Nadab. His name is Nadab, but he was a man with no “dab” (answer/solution). Regarding how he acted in the eyes of the Lord, it is recorded that he did evil.
1 Kings 15:26 (ESV) records: “He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin which he made Israel to sin.” What kind of report card did this man Nadab have? Currently, there are many report cards of our past presidents coming out and being compared; perhaps one king or president will be remembered for reviving the economy, while another will be remembered for doing something else. In that regard, if we were to look for a few strengths in this king named Nadab, I’m sure there would have been some. From a human perspective, he might have been a good king. But what does the Bible pay attention to? By what standard does the Bible evaluate this king named Nadab? It evaluates him from the perspective that he did evil in the sight of the Lord.
We can see today that this king is not evaluated by how much he raised the stock market or how well he stabilized the real estate market, but rather by whether he did good or evil in the sight of God. Therefore, if there is one thing we must remember today, it is this: what is truly important to us? I pray in the name of the Lord that we may remember the fact that the most important thing is not people’s evaluation, but God’s evaluation. What do people look at when they evaluate? They evaluate based on the results a person has achieved.
People judge others based on how much they have accomplished, what achievements they have shown—visible things, measurable things, money, fame, and worldly standards. However, unlike the way the world evaluates, God will judge us by how sincerely we stand before Him and how much we live in obedience to His Word. Today, I hope we clearly remember this one fact in our hearts. Where should we live our life of faith? I believe we must all stand in faith by looking at the perspective of the Lord—the God who sees in secret, who hears our prayers in secret, and who observes our goodness in secret. Even while leading a life of faith, and even while saying we serve God, there are many cases where God is not in our hearts, but instead, we pay far too much attention to how people see us.
Whether people applaud or not, whether they recognize our toil or not, how they view us… there are so many cases where people fall into temptation, lose heart, despair, and fall away from faith depending on how people see them. Even if people do not know, and even if they do not recognize you, I pray in the name of the Lord that you may all be good people in God’s sight and good and faithful servants when He looks at you. Usually, many churches have elections for church officers. We elect elders, senior deaconesses, and ordained deacons. When that happens, people think, “Oh, that person is surely qualified,” but a two-thirds majority is a truly difficult vote to obtain. Two-thirds is not easy.
Consequently, when people who are qualified are not elected as officers because they failed to receive enough votes, it is amazing how many of them feel offended and lose their faith. But it doesn’t matter at all if people don’t recognize you. What is important is not that people recognize me, or remember my name, or know who I am, but that God knows and acknowledges us. What is truly important for us? It is a truly pitiful thing to hear the Lord’s voice on the last day saying, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.” Remembering that it is not about being recognized by people, I pray in the name of the Lord that we may all be those whose faith stands faithfully before God.
Please do not misunderstand. I am not saying it is okay to close your ears to what people say. Occasionally among Christians, “reckless types” appear who say they will lead their life of faith however they want, only looking to God. People give them advice, saying, “You shouldn’t do it this way; you should do it that way.” But when such exhortations are given, they close the doors of their hearts and say, “I don’t care about people. It doesn’t matter what anyone says. I only look to God as I go.” One such reckless person appears every now and then. How many are in our church? None, thankfully. But there are such people sometimes. That person could be a pastor, an elder, a senior deaconess, or a deacon; anyone can fall into that danger.
So, I am by no means saying it is right to run forward blindly like Don Quixote, never listening to people’s words and just going the way you want because you think it’s the right direction. Telling you to care about God and value His perspective rather than people’s does not mean that it is okay to lead a life of faith in that reckless manner. How is God’s will revealed? God communicates His will to us in various ways.
We can realize God’s will through the Bible, but God also desires to speak to us using everything in this world, not just the Bible. Because God governs everything in this world, and because everything happens within His providence and grace, nothing happens by chance. In fact, God’s will and plan are hidden within those events, so the voice of God directed toward us is often delivered in various ways.
Specifically, there are times when it is heard through the stories of our family members, sometimes the voice of God is delivered through the voices of our children, and sometimes we might even hear God’s message through the mouth of our enemies. In all these various ways God speaks to us, what should we do? I believe the basic posture for us believers must be humility. Instead of thinking, “I am right,” “Only I am right,” or “What I have thought until now is the correct answer,” we should ask, “Could I have thought wrongly?”, “In my stubbornness and persistence, am I holding onto something wrong?”, or “Is what I have done out of tradition actually my pride?” We must always discern God’s will seriously with a humble heart, asking what He wants us to realize. Therefore, to discover God’s will, we must always be humble.
If we are not humble while reading God’s Word, we cannot discover His will. We would just want what we want, interpreting the Bible in a self-centered way even while reading it, and it is easy to mistake a wrong path for God’s will. So, what is the basic posture of a believer? It is always to ask humbly, “What is God’s will? Is there anything I have thought wrongly? Because of the stubbornness of my inner self, my anger, or my pride, am I failing to realize God’s Word and going down a wrong path?” We must always look back at ourselves and be those who can surrender ourselves before God’s will. Let’s exhort the person next to us: “Let’s be humble.”
Sadly, the king named Nadab did what was evil in the sight of God. He followed exactly what his father had done, doing just as he saw his father do, and he ended up ruined. How can we escape this cycle of evil? We shouldn’t just blindly follow what our fathers did. We must ask: “Is this truly what God wants? Is this thing my father did truly something that pleases God?” We must always throw out these questions, and if it does not align with God’s will, we must leave our father’s path, escape from his way of ruling, and do the things that please God. Unfortunately, King Nadab went down his father’s path and ended up on the road to destruction; he was killed by a man named Baasha. All of Jeroboam’s descendants were killed—was this a coincidence?
The fact that Nadab’s entire family—all of King Jeroboam’s family—was killed was not a coincidence, but actually the fulfillment of the prophetic word God had given to King Jeroboam. 1 Kings 15:29 (ESV) records: “And as soon as he was king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam. He left to the house of Jeroboam not one that breathed, until he had destroyed it, according to the word of the LORD that he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite.” Who is Ahijah? Ahijah was the prophet who went to King Jeroboam and rebuked him. What did the prophet Ahijah say to King Jeroboam? We looked at it last time; in 1 Kings 14:10–11 (ESV), the prophet Ahijah prophesied this:
“Therefore behold, I will bring harm upon the house of Jeroboam and will cut off from Jeroboam every male, both bond and free in Israel, and will burn up the house of Jeroboam, as a man burns up dung until it is all gone. Anyone belonging to Jeroboam who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat, for the LORD has spoken it.”
When King Jeroboam worshipped idols, set up golden calves in Bethel, built high places, and did evil, God sent the prophet Ahijah to give this prophecy. God would completely destroy Jeroboam’s family—those belonging to Jeroboam who died in the city, the dogs would eat; those who died in the fields, the birds would eat—He prophesied that Jeroboam’s house would completely collapse. What should Jeroboam have done then? He should have repented. If he had repented, it wouldn’t have happened according to that prophecy. God would have relented.
Because God is not a foolish judge but is like a Father who loves us, if we repent and turn back, He is the God who relents from the disaster He intended to bring. Sadly, Jeroboam did not turn back, and his son Nadab followed the same path until the same message of judgment was fulfilled—which is a regrettable thing. Who loses when we betray God and provoke Him to anger? Does God suffer a great loss? Not at all. God loses nothing by that. God does not suffer a loss or become mocked just because we do not acknowledge Him. Who is the only one who loses? We are the ones who lose. We. Who benefits from pleasing God? We are the ones who benefit.
We should enjoy that benefit, but sadly Nadab followed the house of his father and ended up ruined. Looking at this historical story recorded in the Old Testament, which is given to us as a negative example—as a mirror—I pray in the name of the Lord that we may all examine ourselves to see if there is anything deviating from God’s will and faithfully run the path of faith.
