No matter how much they confess and acknowledge Jesus as Lord, they cannot receive salvation. This is because the Bible states that any <em>man<\/em> who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. While the Korean Revised Version translates Romans 10:13 as &#8220;Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,&#8221; the story changes when you look at the original Greek text. The Greek text reads, &#8220;Every <strong>man<\/strong> who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.&#8221; The Greek word <em>hos<\/em> is a masculine nominative relative pronoun. There is no mention of women being saved. Therefore, women cannot enter heaven. There is no path to salvation for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If someone were to argue this way, we would say they know one thing about Greek but are ignorant of the rest. Even though the masculine nominative is used, it encompasses both men and women. While this doesn&#8217;t apply to the Korean language because it lacks gender distinctions, in languages where gender is strictly defined (such as German, Greek, and Latin), it is cumbersome to express both &#8220;man&#8221; and &#8220;woman&#8221; every single time. Thus, in such cases, the masculine form has historically been used to represent both. Even if only the masculine is used, it is correct to see both men and women included within it. Therefore, even though the Greek text says &#8220;every <strong>man<\/strong> who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,&#8221; it is correct to conclude that anyone\u2014whether male or female\u2014who believes in the name of the Lord and receives Him will be saved. That is the teaching of the Bible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are many people around us who interpret the Bible in this [flawed] manner. One representative passage is 1 Timothy 3:2, which stipulates the qualifications for an elder (overseer). This verse states that an elder must be &#8220;the husband of one wife.&#8221; Consequently, some argue that because a woman cannot be &#8220;the husband of one wife,&#8221; women should not be ordained as elders. But is that really so? Does this verse strictly mean that only men who are &#8220;the husband of one wife&#8221; must be ordained? Not at all. The true intent of this verse is to stipulate that if a person is married, they must remain faithful and uphold the integrity of the marital covenant. Therefore, if the person is a woman, she simply needs to be faithful in her domestic life as &#8220;the wife of one husband.&#8221; If the person is not yet married, they must simply avoid a sexually immoral lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is why our denomination allowed the ordination of single men. Despite not being &#8220;the husband of one wife,&#8221; they were permitted to be ordained because the true meaning of the passage was understood. This verse by no means implies that all elders must be currently married or that they must have a living wife and an active household. It does not mean that a pastor whose wife has passed away must step down from his ministry. The meaning of this verse must be understood under the premise: &#8220;If the person is a man in a state of marriage.&#8221; it is not a verse meant to exclude those who are not yet married, nor is it a verse meant to exclude women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bible has already shown that a woman like Deborah could be established as a leader. It has already shown that a woman like Huldah could serve as a prophet. Although there may be differing interpretations, the Book of Romans suggests that a woman like Junia may have served as an apostle or prominent minister. The Apostle Paul did not block women from proclaiming God\u2019s Word altogether; rather, he advised them to wear a head covering while doing so. Is what we are trying to protect right now a biblical principle?
