This isn&#8217;t just a story about others; it is my own story. When my wife is sick, I tell her, &#8220;It\u2019s all because of nutritional deficiency.&#8221; I say, &#8220;You need to eat meat and consume proper food, but you\u2019re sick because you don&#8217;t eat.&#8221; However, my wife says the exact opposite: &#8220;It\u2019s all because I ate too much.&#8221; Faced with the same phenomenon, the diagnoses of two quacks are completely contradictory. This is how we are. Without carefully examining the details, we unconditionally claim the cause lies in whatever we dislike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yet, those words sometimes sound as if they are true. When my wife is truly in pain, she starts to listen to me a little. She asks herself, &#8220;Could it really be because of nutritional deficiency?&#8221; and eats some meat. But when we go to the hospital, the doctor gives a completely different judgment. It has nothing to do with what she ate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who dislike women&#8217;s ordination argue that every problem originates from it. They diagnose that the decline of the Western church is because they started ordaining women, and that denominations accepting homosexuality arose because they unlocked the gate of women&#8217;s ordination. Such diagnoses are no different from the baseless chatter of village elders, yet they make opponents of women&#8217;s ordination nod their heads, thinking, &#8220;That must be it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a church that suffered greatly because of a former senior pastor. After many twists and turns, the church parted ways with him and set out to call a new senior pastor. Then, people began to say: &#8220;Let\u2019s exclude candidates from Seoul National University.&#8221; &#8220;Let\u2019s exclude those who studied abroad.&#8221; &#8220;Let\u2019s exclude those who served as associate pastors in mega-churches.&#8221; &#8220;Exclude anyone over 50; they are too stubborn.&#8221; &#8220;Let\u2019s not do a public search; let\u2019s recruit through recommendations.&#8221; Was any of that truly the reason for the trouble with the previous pastor? In reality, such claims gain traction. However, seeking answers in that manner is not the right way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The global church has experienced many changes. Originally, the Gospel was proclaimed only among Jews, but then it began to be preached to Gentiles. The latch was lifted so that circumcision was no longer required. the Gospel spread beyond Asia to Europe, through America, and finally to us in Korea. In the process, the abolition of slavery took place. The concept of keeping the Sabbath holy changed. Instruments were once forbidden in church, but now they are used. Not only the organ but also the guitar has entered the sanctuary. Where once only the Psalms were sung, now we sing contemporary worship songs. We have come to clap our hands while singing hymns. Where we once practiced only infant baptism, we now have child baptism as well. Women&#8217;s ordination has also been implemented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, some progressive denominations began to accept homosexuality. Where exactly did things go wrong for the tolerance of homosexuality to occur? Those who oppose women&#8217;s ordination diagnose that once you open the door to ordaining women, it eventually leads to the recognition of homosexuality. Is that truly so? Could we not argue that things went wrong starting with the abolition of slavery? Or perhaps the starting point of the error was preaching the Gospel to Gentiles instead of just Jews?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually, some go as far as spreading groundless claims. Someone posts on social media asserting that the World Reformed Fellowship (WRF) &#8220;thoroughly rejects women&#8217;s ordination and homosexuality.&#8221; This is done to spread the impression that women&#8217;s ordination is unacceptable within the Reformed camp. Even though I pointed out that this is not true\u2014that there are denominations within the WRF that allow women&#8217;s ordination\u2014they have no intention of correcting it. They might fix it someday, but by then, the impact of such a claim will have become so great that misinformation will have already saturated people&#8217;s hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I do not insist that my interpretation of the Bible is 100% correct. I believe the biblical passages requiring women to remain silent can be interpreted in two ways. First, I fully acknowledge that it can be interpreted as an eternal truth that every generation must hear. However, I also believe there is a possibility that it was not an eternal norm, but a specific message directed toward the churches in Corinth or Ephesus. The issue is whether one can maintain consistency according to that interpretation. If the former interpretation is correct, then all women should be excluded from ministry immediately.
